May is Military Appreciation Month. On behalf of everyone at ASM, I want to first and foremost extend warm and sincere gratitude to all the men and women who serve and have served our great country. This includes those who have worn the uniform, and those of us who have taken care of all that comes with it. So many times, we as military spouses push and push ourselves for everyone else and forget about ourselves. In the month of May, and every month that follows, take some time for you – not only do you need it but your Soldier and family will benefit too. I have begun to include that “me” time in my days and weeks as part of my plan to maintain my health. My spouse has noticed a significant change in me and the atmosphere within our home.

In this issue, take heart-and maybe even some notes-concerning health and safety preventives to keep you well through the summer and hopefully become good habits and mindsets for life. Child Health and Safety Expert, Debra Holtzman, shows her appreciation for the military by sharing great tips and resources along with giving away copies of her bestseller book. Two physical therapists share their experience and advice on healthy bodies and maintenance in one of our feature stories. Stacy Swearengen stresses the important, yet sometimes controversial, need to follow your true passion in your career, which will ultimately lead to a healthier you. So, have your notebook handy to take note of important tips to enhance your well-being this summer.

In our other sections, you will find more valuable resources and tips on being safe during your summer activities and home maintenance. With anything in life, prevention and maintenance can extend longevity. Start your summer off with health in mind for you, your family and home. And know that you are appreciated for ALL that you do – thank you for serving and your sacrifices.
